There's very little doubt that the Gipsy Kings are good at what they do--they've become the brand name in Sevillana, the pop-oriented flamenco style. Since 1989, when the single "Bamboleo" and their Gipsy Kings album broke through and went gold in the United States, they've found a willing audience in America for their style, which, while flashy, doesn't demand a great deal of the listener, unlike more hardcore versions of flamenco. This double set collects 37 of their biggest tracks, including a version of the Eagles' "Hotel California," into one package guaranteed to satisfy fans of their precise, jubilant playing. And there's no denying they have the power to move people with their singing and fretwork, making this a must for those who want to experience all the familiar material in one sitting. Like the band themselves, the record is an unqualified success as a greatest hits package. --Chris Nickson

Summary: The Gipsy Kings "Very Best Of..." 2008-08-25
Comment: Not a bad song on any of these CDs!! They all bring to mind a sultry evening in some spanish-speaking part of the world. Lilting lyrics, fast and slow conga rythms with impeccable spanish guitar work. CD#1 of the "The Very Best of..." is raucous and fast-paced, while disk #2 is more gentle and relaxing. You will have images of banana and palm trees swaying in the breezes while you relax in some spanish hacienda, cafe or cantina. Break out the premium hand-made cigars and pour up the rum or tequilla!! The Gipsy Kings are an awsome band and will bring any party to life. These CDs are "must-haves" for any serious cigar aficianado!

Comment: I really enjoy this compilation. However, it would have worked much better as a single-disc collection.

Summary: Spanish Flamenco Meets Salsa Funk. 2008-06-13
Comment: Listening to the Gipsy Kings is like drinking pastis on a warm Mediterranean evening in the south of France. The Gipsy Kings are a Rumba Flamenca group formed from two related families from Arles and Montpellier, France. Their music is a blend of Spanish flamenco, guitar-tapping Latin rhythms, and salsa funk, and their songs involve themes of life, love, and death. We write songs that make pretty girls dance, singer-guitarist Nicolas Reyes says. Other Gipsy King members include Paul Reyes, Canut Reyes, Patchai Reyes, Andre Reyes, Diego Baliardo, Paco Baliardo, Tonino Baliardo, all on vocals and guitars. This two-disc compliation is Definitive Gypsy Kings, including career-spanning songs from their Allegria (1982) album through Cantos de Amor (1998). Tracks include:
