Summary: Deep robust Chente 2007-03-22
Comment: This CD is a favorite in my Chente collection because it features him in fine voice with a nice collection of songs. Featured are songs that allow him to break into his extended notes with an emotional vibrato. The mariachi backgrounds are impecaible. A few songs allow Chente to go into his talking voice where he speaks part of the lyrics. Outstanding songs include the ballad "Amor de Mi Alma" which features a mix that exploits his pipes by adding deep undertones in the production ,the cheerful "Una Noche Como Este" that is a short and sweet nationalistic love song, "La Fiesta" which is a great party song for your next family get together, the nostalgic and melancholy "Acuerdate de Mi" which features angelic background vocals in a waltz rhythm,"Sonando en Garibaldi" which speaks to reflections of a lover and drinking in the famous mariachi plaza in Mexico City and "Soliloquio De Un Toro Viejo." The best track on the Cd is the one last mentioned and is worth the price of the disc alone. It features Chente speaking as though he were the old toro(bull)reflecting on his life. This is a famous song made famous by Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan which can be heard softly underneath the soliloquy. He actually never sings on this song but the tale from the bulls perspective is priceless. Recommended for fans of Chente, the living legend. La musica es cultura (The music is culture).
