First things first. The sound on the two cd's(vol vol 1+2) has never sounded better.Great job with remastering on these classic recordings. The brass sounds powerfull and channel seperation is superb. The bonus tracks are a mixed bag. Abran paso is divided in two parts. This should have been edited to one track. Ray Barretto's cocinando is the outstanding bonus track here and sounds amazing. The DVD is a whole other thing. The original negative is still missing so this disc was mastered from a found used print.While a noticible improvement from the vamp soul dvd that was previously available,this DVD is by far not the definitive version. For starters the sound while improved and louder is still mono to my ears.There is no seperation of instruments and/or vocals that I can detect.The original movie had a great stereo soundtrack.Now the image is much improved due to the fact this was a much better print than the previous release. I'm so happy that today, 26th August 2011, it's the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of that the big night of the Cheetah, and that a package DVD/CD has been released for the lovers of what it is The Fania All-Stars, but after checking the video and audio tracks, I cannot be happy at all.

On the DVD there is a critical cut on Anacaona, and a complete deletion of the part where Ray Barretto shouts: "Deja la hipocresía y la falsedad, y ven pa'cá!". Also, I (and I can tell by others too) was expecting Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz' performance of "Ahora Vengo Yo" to be included, and it is not.

On the CD'S there is some bonus tracks, i.e: (Abran Paso - Larry Harlow and Orchestra), but it has been also cut off in two. I know the editors of the movie made it like that 40 years ago, and they did it over Harlow's piano solo (terrible mistake), but in these two parts of these bonus tracks included in this CD, you can only enjoy 20 seconds of that solo...Read more

Una vez mas lo hicieron, tenían la oportunidad de reivindicar la historia, de hacer un buen producto y demostrar a las nuevas generaciones lo que es un verdadero clásico de la música y como siempre fallaron.
La versión de la película (según ellos 40 aniversario, edición limitada del dvd y cd de 'our latin thing') comienza con un fraude, NO es la banda sonora de la pelicula la que acompaña al dvd, son los discos de los conciertos del cheetah! (vol 1 y 2) la banda sonora como tal fue editada por la fania original (yo la tengo hasta en acetato) y no es esto que nos venden, a pesar de que traiga 3 'bonus tracks' .
la película como tal parece copiada de un VHS, sin ni siquiera un mínimo esfuerzo de mejorar la calidad, de hecho hay dos veces que se nota cambio de la textura del sonido y la película, el menú es el mas elemental y casero que pudieron haber puesto, posiblemente lo hicieron con un...Read more
