Popular Canadian flamenco phenomena Jesse Cook toured the world putting together the aptly titled Nomad, his fifth album. As with past efforts, Cook's lightning runs and strong flamenco rhythms are fused with Arabic and Indian rhythms and textures, Western pop vocals, and hip ambient production values not unlike a Buddha Bar collection. He also again gets some nice turns from an impressive list of guest musicians: Nomad's guests include Flora Purim, Afro Celts, the BoDeans, Hossam Ramzy, who each add their own touch. While this kind of cross-genre pollination will not endear Cook to the flamenco purists (even if there is a fair amount of flamenco's classic handclapping rhythms), there are some real strengths to the album. Cook's knowledge of his music allows him to step in out of the tradition, knowing what works without trying to force the issue. Moreover, Cooks solos bristle with the kind of energy one doesn't hear every day, even in the fiery field of flamenco. --Tad Hendrickson

Summary: Fabulous CD. Good variety 2006-09-13
Comment: I really loved this CD. I am a big fan of Jesse Cook and though this CD was not like his others, it was a pleasant surprise with all the variety, yet still the charm and talent of Jesse Cook. I was not used to singing on his CDs but I really liked those songs, and of course the flamenco piece at the end was great as well. I don't know how he did it with such a variety of music, but it all seemed to fit together nicely, and I listen to it over and over without getting tired of it. I think it is a nice compliment to all his other work.

Summary: Montreal (and San Diego) 2006-06-19
Comment: I just got Montreal, so my collection is now complete. I'm not usually a big fan of live performances but I actually like Montreal even better than his studio work (which I wouldn't have thought possible!). I've been checking his concert dates and he'll be in San Diego on September 7th...I'm already clearing the date and getting ready to order tickets...it's not THAT long a drive from Phoenix...

Summary: One of the best CD's in my collection 2006-01-29
Comment: and I have a lot of music, everything from Fritz Reiner's Scherezade, to Wes Montgomery's Smokin' at the Half-Note. This music has passion and soul! I can't stop playing it, and I'm not getting tired of it. Quaddukka-l-Mayyas blows me away, even though I can't understand the words (not being an Arabic speaker). Jesse just nails the transition from Prelude to Quaddukka-l-Mayyas's opening phrase, and the song just makes you want to dance. It's got fire and passion! What more can you ask? All of the tracks on this album are worth the price of the CD just on their own. I own all of Jesse's CD's except Montreal. I hope someday he makes it to Vegas so I can see him live. Kudo's to an outstanding musician. I look forward to his next release. I don't know what he can do to top this one!

Summary: Jesse Cook is GREAT! 2005-05-20
Comment: I am so glad that Jesse Cook uses his and other's expertise to bring so much really great music to us. I have ended up with all of his recordings. That has never happened before with another artist. Many times I have bought other's albums and have only liked one or two songs and that wasn't a good thing. I loved the Middle Eastern flavor of Nomad! I came on this site to see if there were any new albums out. Go Jesse! Another album would be nice too!!:)
