Jaci Hits Gold... Again,
July 1, 2001 By A Customer
This review is from: Mi Corazón (Audio CD)
To be honest, I was expecting an album that didn't quite measure up to LLEGAR A TI, and on first listen, I was a little let down. But as I began to listen more and the songs began to grow on me, I found myself enjoying this album almost as much as I enjoyed CRYSTAL CLEAR (Jaci's best album so far, IMHO). The highlight of the album is definitely "Como Se Cura Una Herida," a song in which Jaci invokes the passion and heartbreak of her parents' divorce through her silky vocals. The bridge doesn't shy away from the answer to a broken heart being found in God. Following this hit single are two songs that are nice enough, and definitely showcase Jaci's voice in its smooth form. But for me, the album doesn't kick off until we get into track #5 - "Dueno De Mi Corazon" (Owner of my Heart), and then "Sin Ti Nu Puedo Vivir" (I Can't Live without You.) Blending vulnerable, but no less powerful, lyrics with masterful production and arrangement from hard-hitters like Emilio Estefan Jr. and Mark Heimermann, the 22-year-old songstress shows the strides she has made both vocally and personally. Taking a page from her critically acclaimed Christian smash "Crystal Clear", she delves...Read more

With "Llegar a ti" Jaci made a substantial mark in the crowded Spanish crossover market and with "Mi Corazón" she's found a more distinctive sound. Less of her soft-poppy Christian music past, more vibrant young woman -- without the need to embellish every line with 30 extra notes (a la the Cristina Aguilera's of the world).
