In the first few notes of 'Luz de Luna', Magos Herrera draws the listener into a reflective place of calm and dream-like reverie. There is a sense of being drawn back with her to an essence of Mexico that is like a pleasant rememberance of things in a 'middle time', a reverie of memories not distant, yet not too close. You want to be there now in this dreamscape of things past, but easily touched with the heart and mind in the immediacy of the present. Magos easily slips into these songs as if she were silk and they were something needing a soft touch. But then Magos, the best jazz vocalist of my time, creates moods within moods and constructs musical meanings within endless musical meanings because these yearnings for meanings are also the essence of music itself.
"Que Sea Para Mi", etc., wonderfully enters Magos inner musical world, perhaps her aesthetic soul, where only she can go, but from where she invites us to follow as only our own deep heart's core is capable of doing...Read more
