A truly well-deserved tribute to the "Beethoven of Salsa".,

The late great Puerto Rican songwriter "Tite" Curet Alonso's influence in Salsa music can NOT be underestimated. His compositions were frequently recorded by such Salsa legends as Cheo Feliciano, Pete "Conde" Rodriguez, Bobby Valentin, Ruben Blades, Tommy Olivencia, Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, Frankie Ruiz and so many others--in fact, he played a key role in the Fania label's rise to prominence. This 2-CD set (while not definitive) is truly special because 1.)it contains an in-depth essay coupled with archive photos and 2.)because its producers chose to include both the big hits and undisputed classics AND equally-loved album tracks...all with superb sound quality. My highest recommendation.

This is a nice introduction to the most prolific and possibly greatest Salsa composer. I really liked the liner notes but felt that CD 2 had too many boleros. All the songs are from the 60's and 70's ("La esencia del guaguancó" and "Amor y tentación" are labeled as being released in the 2000's but they were actually released in 1970 and 1971 respectively). They should release a part two with compositions released in the 1980's and later.
