UK double vinyl LP pressing. 2009 release, the third album from the unique Mexican-American singer/songwriter. Written entirely in English and produced by Lhasa herself (she collaborated with Patrick Watson, Freddy Koella and Sarah Pag, on some songs), recorded entirely to tape, this album feels like a singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer coming into her own. The instrumentation is simple yet unusual - harp, guitar, pedal steel, bass, drums, piano. The melodies are familiar and irresistible, yet totally original. The style draws from Country, Gospel, Blues and Folk, and manages to feel ancient without a hint of nostalgia, and modern without a drop of technological wizardry. Far from all of the sound and fury of the modern music business, Lhasa has been quietly going about becoming one of the most fascinating songwriters of her generation. WCJ.

Summary: What an incredible album!! 2010-04-30
Comment: I must confess that this is the album that hooked me on Lhasa. Only just a few weeks after her prolonged illness took such a sweet soul out of this world. Wish so bad that I could have had exposure to her at an earlier point. Anyway, about the album, it is one of those albums that are far and few between. A CD that you can just play and enjoy the whole album without any skipping of tracks. From the sincere and poignant "Is There Anything Wrong" to the melancholy "Anyone and Everyone" this CD is just fantastic. Such smooth and sultry vocals/bass/jazz on "Love Came Here" and that coming right out of the heart-wrenching "Rising". Her vocals and the musicianship are top notch and they meld so cohesively together that is indescribable. I couldn't possibly recommend this album more to anyone. She definitely will be missed by many.

Comment: Charming and touching.Lhasa knew then that she had breast cancer. She would pass away soon after doing the record, on January 1 2010. Thank you Lhasa for such a beautiful gift.

Comment: Lhasa de Sela: September 27, 1972 - January 1, 2010.
I am shocked and heartbroken by her passing. I saw her perform at the Old Town School of Music, Chicago, Feb 2005. She was warm and engaging, telling beautiful stories about her songs and her life. I feel robbed and cheated...yet another terrible loss to breast cancer.
Goodbye Lhasa, you made the most beautiful music.

Summary: A tragic loss... 2010-01-06
Comment: The recent passing of Lhasa will be felt for years to come. Those of us familiar with her music knew an artist like no other. She truly bared her soul and allowed us to see inside this treasure. This release is a stunning example of her work and one that would be a great place for a new listener to start. Take a listen to "Fool's Gold" and you will learn why the world lost someone very special.

Comment: "When my lifetime had just ended
And my death had just begun
I told you Id never leave you
But I knew this day would come"
Lhasa "I'm Going In"
I write this with sadness since I have only learned today that she died around the new year at the young age of 37. I am rarely moved by modern music to me music today is a simply too predictable and stale until I heard "La Llorona" "The Living Road" and tragically her final album simply titled "Lhasa". Lhasa's use of inter winding languages such as in La Llorona and The living Road shocked me since I have never heard such a perfect blending with all the variety of songs and especially the hauntingly beautiful lyrics in each and every album. How tragic is it to lose such a great talent? It's like a artist being told not to imagine nor dream it's emptiness absolute emptiness. This is her final album and in many ways her best, here she bares her soul with a combination of optimism and sadness but above all acceptance. Lhasa knew her fate and it's presented here in such a lovely and honest album that I advise anyone who has lost faith in music to listen to this personal icon of mine and if you give her a chance she will engulf your soul and make you smile.
Rest In Peace Lhasa de Sela
