Summary: Among the greatest Calamaro albums! 2007-11-20
Comment: Sometimes when you buy an album of an artist you like, it may happen that at a first listen it doesn't get to you, you have to listen to it several other times until you fully get it and enjoy it; some other times it might happen that from the first listen you enjoy it completely. `La lengua popular' fits very well in the second category.
Starting with the incredible graphic design by Liniers, the album's eclectic drawings are reminiscent of what you are about to listen. Other reviewers state this sounds like 'El Salmon' but I beg to differ, 'El Salmon' has always been 'the' experimental album, nothing but a five-disc album of Calamaro experimenting with his computer and having a good time with his songs, friends and covers of some of his favorite tracks.
In 'La lengua popular' Andres goes back to basics (and apparently being in love helped too) and delivers 12 of his best songs in a while. After experimenting with Tangos, songs from Litto Nebbia and live recordings, a studio album with new songs is more than welcome.
From the opening song, a powerful rock theme entitled 'Los chicos' Andres delivers one great song after another. The second track and actually the second single 'Carnaval de Brasil' has the typical Calamaro lyrics in which he plays with words, the music will remind you of the old songs Billy Preston used to play; check out in Calamaro's website the excellent accompanying video. The album also contains '5 minutos mas' which played in his website for months prior to the album's release. It also includes a great ballad called 'Soy tuyo', written in collaboration with Sabina, Miguel Cantilo and Urrutia. 'Mi gin tonic', 'La espuma de las orillas', 'Comedor Piquetero' and 'Sexy y barrigon' are some other great titles from this album.
A music critic from Argentina said something I liked and I will try to rephrase it (as I don't recall the exact words used) 'This would be Calamaro's jump-to-fame album were he not a renown artist already'
All in all, another great album is added to Calamaro's discography.
On a side note, fans may want to check the fan site `Camisetas para todos', they have been following Andres for 5 years now and he just gave them as an anniversary present 5 rehearsals for his December concerts to be downloaded for free, some reggae and `tropical' versions of some of his songs.

Summary: Very Good Calamardo 2007-11-11
Comment: Yes it sounds a lil bit like El Salmon but i think that's great, El palacio de las flores was good but not too many Rock songs there.
The opening track is awesome, will make you jump in the stadium for sure!
Every track is excellent, no complains here.
Includes liner notes by Rodrigo Fresan, and a great artwork by Liniers.
