Summary: A series of gems from the "Easy Listening" Era 2008-09-16
Comment: The "50 Guitars" were the brainchild of Tommy "Snuff" Garrett when he was with Liberty Records in the 60s. I still have my father's copies of the albums and Liberty was the "Cadillac" marque of the day, their records were like dinner plates, you never had to worry about these babies warping. I did transfer them all to tape years ago but was pleased to find these titles, finally, on CD. They still sound great and the arrangements are tremendous but the "gimmick" worked best with traditional mexican or latin themes where guitars were dominant anyway, the brand got a little weak when they started covering Top 40 stuff. This album, South of The Border, and Espana are, in my opinion, the strongest of the series. The only reason I didn't award 5 stars is because the original album art and liner notes are missing, replaced by little more than a plain brown wrapper, but I can live with that. If you remember these, buy them, if you love good guitar music, try them.
