Summary: Neglectable and untasty repertoire even unsaved by the great Cesar Camargo Mariano 2006-05-17
Comment: Cesar Camargo Mariano has always been a reference as arranger to Brazilian vocalists through the last 30 years. Elis Regina, Leny Andrade, Nana Caymmi, Leila Pinheiro, Maria Martha, Nara Leao, Fafa de Belem, and even Gal Costa have counted on his creative arrangements.
Deception here comes from the fact that this is the first time that not even the sensitive sound of Mr. Mariano has saved a music program from a bore tour of more than 10 tracks.
Not even fresh new material by Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque brings relief.

Comment: Gal gives her best in this Cesar Camargo Mariano produced album
From the opening track,MAR E SOL,Gal takes us in a journey holding the hand of lesser known Brazilian songwriters. The product is a noncommercial Cd that is the envy of a many purist.
Gal's voice is the most appropriate messenger in tracks such as PRA QUE CANTAR and the title track HOJE.Overall, just wonderful.

Summary: Radically conservative 2005-09-17
Comment: I enjoyed the album very much. It was produced by Cesar Camargo Mariano, a very talented man himself, the famous arranger of Elis' records and known in some circles for his own material. The decision was to recreate the 70s studio while choosing only new songs from contemporary young songwriters.
The songwriters will be obscure to you: Peri, Junio Barreto, Hilton Raw... but they all have their own independently released albums and are very talented musicians and singers themselves. Look them up. It is really worth the effort.
Gal sounds great here. Her voice is in perfect shape and always will be. She is a singing machine.
The only problem I found was the overuse of background choirs. Very distracting and of questionable taste. But cool in a retro kinda way anyway.
It is an album or purists. No electronica, no crossovers. It is as MPB album, made like it is still 1974. The irony comes from the fact that Gal herself didn't have an album that sounded like this in the 70s. She had to wait for the 00s to make it...
