Summary: Classic 2010-08-16
Comment: Tom Jobim and Elis Regina must have had a great time recording this. On the first and most famous track, "Aquras De Marco," you can here Elis breaking up laughing and it takes her a few lines to regain her stance. It works, setting the intimate tone for this album
After hearing Jobim's 1960s A&M albums like Wave, with scant vocals and heavy orchestration, the contrast here is a treat. Jobim sings--it gives you the feeling you are right next to him, not listening to the arrangements of composer--and overall, these tracks feature a small band; establish an immediacy albums like Wave don't.
Not everything is light as a feather: listen to the dark strings on "Carcovado." But a lot of the tracks maintain a breezy small group nuance that make this album so endearing. Either way, Regina's voice is perfect. You can here the passion in the music, in how Jobim arranges around her soft, pristine vocal lines.
Tom and Elis have a little party. Come.

Summary: A chestnut from the incomparable Elis Regina 2009-12-13
Comment: Although she passed away many years ago, Elis Regina remains adored by lovers of music, especially Brazilian music. At times sad, at times funny, in turn child-like and sophisticated, Elis Regina's interpretive gifts are showcased in this album. Of course, her signature song Aguas do Marco captivates me at each listening. This is a must have for everyone, fan or not.

Summary: Regina could be better 2009-10-12
Comment: I like Carlos Jobin's music a lot so I was expecting this C.D.to be more exciting. I thought collection of music was rather poor and Regina sings with less fire. She could be better.

Summary: must-hear album 2008-08-05
Comment: For those who love music this album, along with "blue" from joni mitchell, "tapestry" from carloe king, "tracy chapman" from tracy chapman, "in the wee small hours of the morning" from frank sinatra, is a must hear album, one of the most brilliant albums of all times, and also a great opportunity to meet Elis Regina, the singer considered by the critics to be one of the ten greatest singers of all times. If you love music there is no excuse for not buying "Elis & Tom" and trust me, you will LOVE it.
