Product Review

Reissue of the album that made Senor Coconut a household name (sort of). El Baile Alem n was originally released in 2000 On this release, Se¤or Coconut (Uwe Schmidt, Atom Heart) reworks Kraftwerk with a Latin punch. Although the idea of Latin reworkings of arty German synth music may seem like a novelty, the results are far from it. This is as real as it gets and successfully manages to reinterpret both musical styles while never straying too far away from either.

These are probably the happiest most cheerful "covers" of the Kraftwerk classics available. The xylophone interpretations of the original electronica are astounding. All the tracks are set to a latin beat, Merengue, Cumbia, Cha-Cha-Cha... but this doesn't distract/detract at all from the original. Even the cover art is a hoot. A very happy purchase, I hope Senor Coconut does Art of Noise next.

Pretty innovative adaptation from Techno Pop's founders, the German group Kraftwerk. Good choices of available Latin rhythms for the Kraftwerk tunes such as Cumbia (Colombia), Merengue (Dominican Republic). To be considered as experimental Latin Pop music listened to by Kraftwerk fans but not your typical Latin audience.
