This review is from: Cocinando La Salsa (Audio CD)
Released shortly after the Tico label was bought out by Fania Records, this album is chock-full of DEVASTATINGLY hard-hitting, heavy-swinging '70s Salsa. If you are expecting any Boogaloo or Latin Soul tracks on here...well, forget it. This is Salsa with a capital S and one of those CDs which have no filler material whatsoever. An interesting story behind the making of this album is that Fania owner Jerry Masucci (1935-1997) told Joe Cuba (who was still signed to Tico Records at the time) to record for him the best straight-ahead Salsa album he could come up with and he certainly did just that as this underrated but smokin' classic certainly does live up to its title. If you are a fan of 1970s Salsa and are either unfamiliar with this CD or don't yet have it all I can say is you won't regret buying it. Enjoy!
