Summary: Dance with me.....great music..... 2008-06-04
Comment: 1. Se Acabo El Amor - This track is currently burning up the Colombian and Peruvian charts. It's already conquered Venezuela. A beautiful salsa romantica song in the 80's style. In other words, it's salsa romantica but it swings throughout. I know there are about 4 singers on this album so i'm not sure who sings this one which is a pity because I am really loving his style, it's all his own. Lyrically, it's about a love lost.

2. Ponte Pila - This is a floor burner. Clearly for the dancers with a distinctive Colombiano style to it's rhythm. It's pure fire. The title says it all.

3. Si Supieras - Another gorgeous salsa romantica song for the ladies. What makes this one standout is the gorgeous string section which lingers lingers throughout the song. It gives the song an extra lushness, an extra emotional jolt that fits in with the beautiful lyrics of a man totally in love with a woman. The same singer as Se Acabo El Amor (damn he is good). Makes me think of my wife everytime I hear this song.

4. Cuerpo Sin Alma - The first song on the album to be a truly salsa dura a la FANIA style. It has the dirty trombone arrangements at the fore and the lyrics... wow... haven't heard anything as hard lyrically as this in a while. Essentially about a woman married to a man who constantly cheats and if I am understanding the song correctly she commits suicide... enough said. Fania style salsa dura.

5. Aquel Lugar - Another salsa romantica song... not as good as the previous 2 mentioned but still good. But really what makes this different is the break about 3/4 of the way through with a brazilian bossa nova rhythm. Good to see this type of arrangement making a comeback in salsa (Victor Manuelle's Decision Unanime also does this on the 1st track). Still though, Roberto Roena's Apollo Sound (FANIA again) was king of this, check out his 70's albums.

6. Amor Amargo - The weakest of all the salsa songs on the record. Songs like this have been done before. The melody just sounds really obvious. I tend to skip this one.

7. Buscame - The title track. Another Salsa Romantica song... kind of reminds me of Lalo Rodriguez. From what I understand bandleader and bassist Porfi Baloa also sings in this song (i can hear two different singers). It shows he isn't a singer but the feeling is there. The song is another absolutely gorgeous track again dominated by the string section. Also, some absolutely crazy mini piano solos with a vaudeville sound to them (best I can describe it). It works.

8. Paco - Another salsa dura a la FANIA track. It reminds me of those classic tracks like Pedro Navaja and Juanito Alimana in lyrical content (it's about a gangster) and in arrangements. It's clearly a homage to those tracks and it does them justice.

9. The worst track on the album, in fact the only bad song on the album (if you don't include the Ranchera version of Se Acabo El Amor). It's a merengue and it just doesn't work. There's some silly rhumba arrangements in the first verse. I'm pretty sure Porfi sings on this one too. It just sounds like a million other mediocre merengue songs. Even the way the song is being sung it doesn't sound like they are taking this song seriously at all.

10. Se Acabo El Amor (ranchera version) - I love ranchera music but this does not work. I don't think its' the melody or the lyric, it's the arrangement. Clearly a non ranchera arranger did the arranging and it shows. For example, it's like getting a rock arranger and asking them to arrange a salsa track, just would not work.

So here's the round up... 7 out of 10 songs are brilliant, 1 is awful, another one i'm neutral on because it sounds like other songs i've heard, and the ranchera version on Se Acabo el Amor is a mistake.

I would recommend you buy this album, but it's almost impossible to get it over the internet. I have searched high and low and it's just not available online. Even [...] which tends to have even obscure salsa recordings hasn't got it. I know it's available in Venezuela (and I assume Colombia, where i'm going in January) but apart from that you may be out of luck. If someone manages to find it on the web i'd love to know.

Comment: If you listen closely you will hear that this CD was put out after Porfi Baloa( owner, arrainger, composer of the band) got out of drugs. This is a great disk and it has a positive message.
Track: En Aquel Lugar, will be a hit once it starts playing on the radio ,heck its a hit now in all the NEW YORK CITY LATIN CLUBS.

Summary: A couple of good tracks, therefore two stars. 2008-03-19
Comment: I bought the CD off the good comments I had read, sorry to say it's not all that. There are a couple of really good tracks, I'm not sure where all that hardcore salsa is that someone else commented on?
There is alot of talking at the end or middle of tracks which make them sound unprofesional. The group should grow up, they have talent and should concentrate on what they do good. No Merengue, Ranchera or Romantica, just full-on Salsa. Are you listening Adolescent's Orquesta?

Summary: 3 words: Go and buy this CD now...Ok, thats six words... 2008-03-09
Comment: Awesome CD...If you are a hard-Core salsa fan you will love it. I Pre-ordered this CD without hearing one track because I had purchased previous CDs by them and was never disappointed...THIS IS NO EXCEPTION...This band is so tight. The percussion and the brass are very powerful. Also, nice clear solid vocals. Lyrics are good. My favorite tunes so far are Ponte Pila, Cuerpo sin alma, Amor amargo and Paco. But they are all good tracks. There's even a merengue thrown in for good measure.

Multi talented Porfi Valoa composed 8 of 9 tracks and arranged the entire cd. also playing various instruments throughout album.
