Independent acoustic "folk" singers lull your kid's to sleep,

This is another of the sonically diverse CD compilations from Putumayo, and the fifth volume in their "Dreamland" series. This time it is a selection of singer-songwriters playing ACOUSTIC instruments - described in the booklet, as "electric instruments were not used". The list of performers will probably be now to many - they record for small independent record labels (and, in the case of Elizabeth Mitchell's version of the Allman Brothers "Blue Sky", may not have been previously released).
The music is there to help put children to sleep but, because these are not primarily "children's artists", they will easily appeal to the parents (though they too might fall asleep with these (mostly) quiet arrangements. There is Mark Erelli's cover of Wilco's "My Darling" and William Fitzsimmon's take on James Taylor's "You Can Close Your Eyes". I found the latter song a lot grittier than Taylor's version. Fitzsimmon's voice has more of a Tom Waitts quality.

Acoustic Dreamland- great for kids and parents,
April 2, 2011 This review is from: Acoustic Dreamland (Audio CD)
This CD is so sweet and soothing. We listen to it every night, and it has become a great part of my son's nighttime routine. I love all the songs, and I find the lyrics to many of them beautiful. There really aren't any weak songs on the CD; my only wish is that it had 1 or 2 more songs as it seems somewhat short, but I think it is actually an ideal length for a bedtime CD. I plan to purchase this as a gift for friends who have babies/children, and I highly recommend it!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acoustic Dreamland (Audio CD)
I stumbled upon the Putumayo Kids' website by chance and began to browse their selections. My 9 month old baby girl and I--mostly I--had been having trouble sleeping through the night, as she has rediscovered the joys of skin to skin contact while she sleeps and she won't allow me to put her down in her crib. I was hesitant about the purchase, but after reading the reviews of Putumayo's Acoustic Dreamland, I decided to purchase. She was asleep by the time William Fitzsimmons told her that she "could close her eyes, it's alright," and a miracle occurred. . . she stayed asleep. Her tiny hands hadn't gripped my nightshirt for dear life, she let go. . . and went off to sleep. So, for all you on-the-fencers about the purchase (It's $15 for 30 minutes worth of music), I am here to tell you that it's worth it. Not to mention, you can listen to it over and over, and it doesn't make your want to scratch out your own eyeballs!
